Partner Workshop Series

Grief and Loss in Recovery:  The Partner’s Experience

Saturday, August 28, 2010
9:00am – 12:00 noon
Cost:  $75

For partners in the process of recovery, sincere grief emerges in reaction to the intense changes taking place in an individual and a family. Losses may be tangible, such as loss of friends, a job or a way of life.  Other losses are less tangible but sometimes more painful, such as loss of trust, role in the family, or loss of the shared dream.

Unresolved grief can be an underlying contributor to chronic anger, sadness, depression, anxiety, rigidity or health problems. Using written and experiential exercises, partners will identify and address unresolved grief and loss related to the addictive family system and leave with a personalized plan to continue grief work and healing.

Family of Origin:  Rules and Roles

Saturday, September 18, 2010
9:00am – 12:00 noon
Cost:  $75

Growing up in a chaotic, abusive or disengaged family system, partners, unable to get their needs met through direct, attuned relationships, learn strategies on how to adapt to the dysfunction.  The rules and roles partners find they have internalized can have lasting impacts on future relationships, coping styles, and feelings of self-worth.

This workshop will explore family rules, roles, attitudes and beliefs that continue affecting the partner’s ability to cope adaptively with life stresses and impact relationships.

Reclaiming Your Sexual Self
Saturday, October 9, 2010
9:00am – 12:00 noon
Cost:  $75

Being hurt by a spouse/partner’s harmful sexual behavior can have lasting impacts on a partner’s sexuality, sexual functioning and sexual sense of self.  Short and long-term effects impact the ability to rebuild intimacy even when the couple is doing well in recovery.

Treatment attempts to help the addict often neglect and minimize the sexuality of the partner.  This workshop will address some ways the partner’s sexuality is impacted and help partners embark on a sexual-healing journey to reclaim a healthy sexual sense of self.
